Student Photography Intern with QVSD
Position Overview: Quaker Valley High School is seeking a motivated and creative student to serve as a Photography Intern for the 2024-2025 school year. The intern will be responsible for capturing high-quality photos at various student events, organizing and uploading these images to be used by the Quaker Valley High School Yearbook and Communications Department. This internship offers hand-son experience in photography, event coverage, and digital media management. Interns will gain valuable skills while contributing to school publications and promotional materials. This internship is a unique opportunity for students interested in photography, journalism, and media to gain hands-on experience while contributing to the school community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Attend and photograph a minimum of a pre-determined number of student events per trimester (e.g., sports, performances, clubs, school activities).
- Capture a diverse range of high-quality images, focusing on student participation, action shots, and event atmosphere.
- Edit and organize photos, ensuring proper formatting and quality for publication.
- Upload photos to the designated platforms (Google Drive, school database, etc.) within 24-48 hours of each event for use by the Yearbook and Communications Department.
- Collaborate with the Yearbook and Communications teams to meet specific photo requirements.
Additional Opportunities:
- Equipment: Interns can borrow a District-owned camera if needed.
- Experiential Learning Credit: Hours spent on designated online photography courses may be counted toward internship hours with prior approval.
- Professional Development: The position will provide opportunities to develop photography skills, gain experience with digital media, and build a portfolio of work.

- Current Quaker Valley High School student in good academic standing
- Passion for photography and willingness to learn and improve skills
- Ability to attend school events outside of regular school hours
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Basic knowledge of photo editing software or a willingness to learn
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage time effectively
Commitment:
- Intern must commit to attending a predetermined number of events per trimester (specific number based on scheduling and availability).
- Flexibility in managing event attendance and photography workload.

Video Production Internship with QVSD
This is an exciting opportunity for anyone interested in video production. The Video Production Intern is responsible for assisting the Quaker Valley School District Communications Department in creating a visual representation of what is going on throughout the district using video (both short and longer form). This internship could be used for credit toward your Experiential Learning graduation requirement. Responsibilities: Assist the Director of Communications in capturing and editing content that portrays events across the District. Responsible for the safe transfer and storage of all footage. Operate and maintain production equipment. Ensure equipment is charged and properly stored. Work closely with staff and students to execute concepts through to completion. Maintain accurate records, logs, and transcribe production activities. In addition to the core responsibilities of the position, interns may be asked, or may seek to engage unique abilities, strengths, and passions through participation on cross-functional teams. The seven-week EcoLeader Academy course provides an invaluable opportunity for highly motivated high school students to gain knowledge of the many facets of environmental science: ecosystems, human health, policy, climate change, food and agriculture, energy, pollution, environmental justice issues, local to global impacts, sustainability and green careers. Attendees will grow in self-confidence and strengthen skills, such as communication, collaboration and public speaking that will also build a solid resume for college and job applications. The program runs one day a week (participants choose a Wednesday or Thursday cohort to join) from 12:30 – 4:30PM. Daily activities include a combination of expert-led classes, discussions, workshops, opportunities for creativity and service projects. This program is free and participants will receive a stipend for participation. Young Naturalists are high school students who want to learn more about nature and love spending time outdoors. They accept the challenge to work hard in conditions that are at times harsh and physically demanding to improve the health of the park. Young Naturalists are also interested in pursuing a degree or career related to environmental science, ecology, education, STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) or sustainability. The Young Naturalists program is a fun, PAID, 5-week opportunity for students to get outdoors and learn about the environment, gain unique work and leadership experience, and meet other teenagers who are interested in the environment. Students spend their summer outdoors learning about environmental STEM content alongside expert naturalists, scientists, and nature enthusiasts while working to improve the health of our parks by controlling erosion, managing and monitoring invasive species, repairing trails, and caring for trees. NAIOP Pittsburgh Skyline Academy—Carlow University, June 22-27
The 4th Annual NAIOP Pittsburgh Skyline Academy will take place this summer on the campus of Carlow University. This weeklong residential camp sponsored by NAIOP Pittsburgh, the Commercial Real Estate Association, will introduce 25 rising high school juniors and seniors to career possibilities in commercial real estate. The program emphasizes practical skills, industry exposure, and hands-on learning through workshops, site visits, and a culminating group case study presentation. TurnUp, a 501(c)(3) non-partisan, non-profit organization, is dedicated to increasing youth civic engagement. They are offering a $100 paid civic fellowship opportunity for students. We are hiring at least five students at Quaker Valley High School to serve as high school civic fellows. Fellows will be trained and perform a total of 1-2 hours of work over the course of 2 weeks to help register students to vote in their high school. The application link is HERE. Joy of Coding Online Courses—College-level Intro Courses in Coding and AI
Enrollment has opened for our 2026 Joy of Coding online courses, specially created by the University of Michigan Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, for high schoolers who want to experience first-hand the power and thrill of coding computers, including AI, to do amazing things. These courses are offered in a learn-at-your-pace, online, fully instructor-supported format. Intro to Coding and Computational Thinking course is ideal for beginners with no prior coding background who want to experience the power of coding firsthand. Intro to Data Visualization and AI course is a perfect follow-up for students with prior coding experience (such as our Intro to Coding Course or AP Computer Science) who want to learn how AI works to ultimately train, evaluate and improve their own AI. Intro to Training, Evaluating and Fine-tuning an AI offers an excellent introduction to students who have completed the data and visualization and AI course on how modern AI systems learn from data. Seeking math and science-loving students who perhaps don't realize that coding, including coding AI, is for everyone and not just for Computer Scientists. Requirements: Age 13+ who have taken algebra who: Enjoy the logic in math, Love solving problems creatively and, Are willing to reach out for help to our team of coaches when stuck - everyone gets stuck somewhere when learning something new! Students may begin our courses any time after June 17, 2026, and complete them at their own pace by August 28, 2026. Each course requires about 4–6 hours per week. This summer we will be holding our 5th annual Experiencing Architecture summer program taught on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh. The program is taught by two licensed architects. Students will spend three weeks working through an architectural problem, building models, sketching, and using drafting/modeling software. Students will tour architecture firms, do walking tours, and experience a trip to Fallingwater (if possible). The program is perfect for artistic students, those interested in sciences, and anyone who might be considering a career in design, architecture, engineering, or construction. The program is open to all students who will be entering grades 9-12 in the Fall of 2026. There is no application or program fee, this is accomplished through a generous and collaborative effort geared toward making architectural education more accessible. Leetsdale Borough applied to and has been awarded full funding to develop an Active Transportation Plan through the PA WalkWorks Program. Active Transportation refers to walking, biking, using a wheelchair, or riding transit to get to everyday destinations. Leetsdale Borough is reaching out to neighbors, co-workers, companion organizations, elected officials, adjacent municipalities, educational institutions, and regional non-profits to invite others to get involved. SLB Radio Summer Camps offer middle and high school students one-of-a-kind experiences at the Youth Media Center (co-located within the Children’s Museum on the North Side), including opportunities to learn new skills, get creative, make new friends, and have their voices be heard. Camp Counselors work with SLB staff members to support summer camp activities and act as role models and peer mentors to campers during their time at the Youth Media Center. Counselors will work alongside campers and demonstrate best practices. Qualifications: While familiarity with SLB Radio and/or audio production is a plus, it isn't a requirement. Here's what we'll be looking for in applicants: A strong sense of empathy and sincere interest in helping others; Willingness to learn and improve; Interest and/or experience in media creation/audio recording/writing/etc.; While not required, previous peer mentorship and/or leadership experience is a plus Schedule: Camp Counselors are expected to be available for the entirety of the camp(s) for which they are serving, from 10 am - 3:30 pm each day of camp. YMCA Youth and Government
YMCA Youth and Government began as a simple program with a Model Legislature and a Youth Governor. Today, it’s a dynamic and immersive learning experience involving hundreds of youth each year in a realistic and complex simulation of Pennsylvania’s state government. The YMCA Model Convention is conducted almost entirely by students. Participants can serve as legislators, judges, attorneys, lobbyists, and media members. While the primary goal of this program is the promotion of responsible citizenship, the possibilities for discovery are virtually limitless. Camp Counselor Position—PITT KIDS program
The PITT’s KIDS program provides instruction in aquatics, games, and sports instruction to children ages 3 to 13 years old (fall/spring semesters) and 5 to 13 years old (summer only). Camp Counselor positions are available for students 14-16.
BNY College Program—For Juniors and Seniors
Summer 2025 registration is now open at CCAC, for high school students that are interested in Business, Computer Information Technology or Accounting. CCAC has a free opportunity to earn college credits or an entire certificate! Through the BNY Early College Program, all tuition, fees and books are funded by a generous grant from the BNY Foundation of Southwestern PA. All of the courses on the attached course map are free to take except for Math 090 and English 101. These certificates provide an excellent foundation for students to either continue their education or join the workforce directly. Students should apply to participate in this program because they get to earn college credit for free, explore subject areas for possible future careers, learn new and enhanced skills necessary for college course work and earn transferable credits! ALCOSAN—Internships & Job Shadowing for High School Students
ALCOSAN’s Scholastic Outreach Department offers internships and job shadowing opportunities to high school students, college students, post graduate students and recent graduates with an opportunity to learn more about specialized careers in the wastewater industry. ALCOSAN provides the students and recent graduates with real-world working exposure and provides an opportunity to gain experience in their field of interest. High School interns can be in grades 10 through 12 (including recent high school graduates) All students must submit a completed application. The following documents are needed to apply: resume, letter of recommendation (faculty may email letters directly to [email protected]), and transcript/ coursework in PDF format. Job shadowing opportunities are available for students in 7-12 grade who are interested in STEM and skilled trade careers and would like exposure alongside a professional in their career interest(s). (FREE) ALCOSAN—Clean Water Academy – Grades 9-12—July 13-24
The ALCOSAN Clean Water Academy program is a two-week program STEM enrichment program that provides high school students with content related to wastewater treatment in the fields of science, technology, engineering, chemistry, microbiology, and math. Students take an in-depth tour of ALCOSAN’s wastewater treatment plant. Each year, ALCOSAN collaborates with a local university, facilitated by ALCOSAN staff along with university faculty. Students engage with a wide variety of STEM professionals including engineers, scientists, information technologists, and tradespeople from ALCOSAN and the university. Entrepreneurs Wanted for the Kids Markets at Sewickley May Mart & Night Mart
Students are invited to explore entrepreneurship through Kids Markets, where young innovators create and sell their own products or services in a supportive, real-world environment. Participants build valuable skills in problem-solving, teamwork, creativity, and basic business concepts while gaining confidence and hands-on experience. Upcoming market dates are May 9, June 26, July 31, and August 28, 2026 in Sewickley. Registration is available at kidsmarkets.com. Creator Academy - WQED
The Creator Academy (formerly WQED Film Academy) draws on its partnership with teaching artists and professional mentors to teach a curriculum of the basics of digital media arts – what we call SCALE: storytelling, camera, audio, lighting, and editing. The curriculum is more than 100 hours of hands-on and collaborative learning and uses the latest digital media technology. Each class produces their own short film by the end of the session. There are three sessions per year: Summer, Fall and Spring. Scholarships are available. Upon successful completion of The Creator Academy, students can apply to the Teen Film Crew. The Teen Film Crew gets paid while they continue to build their skills creating promotional videos for clients. The teaching artists work with the students as a team – just as they would in a professional agency.
