Early Childhood Program Overview
Sewickley Academy’s Early Childhood program incorporates the Reggio Emilia approach in its pedagogy. This educational philosophy is rooted in the idea that learning should be play-based and student-centered.
Exploratory play prepares our students for future learning, as it helps them to develop the senses and skills in small and large motor development, communication, thinking, and self-regulation. Early Childhood teachers thoughtfully plan the classroom environment, giving each student the opportunity to define their pace, express themselves, and develop academic confidence. Academic skills are taught alongside self-directed exploration of topics of interest.
