Speaking at School Board Meetings
Communication with the School Board is very important, and we welcome the residents and taxpayers to attend the meetings and will be glad to listen to your opinion on issues the board is considering, or any constructive statement you may wish to make. We follow Board Policy 903. Board meetings generally occur twice a month and begin at 7:00 p.m. They are held on most occasions at Edgeworth Elementary School.
We ask that all attendees show courtesy and respect to everyone present, and request that all statements be directed to the entire Board. School Board Meetings are a time for the Board to hear from the residents and taxpayers of Quaker Valley, but not necessarily a time for discussion with the public. Please know that dialogue with the Board will be limited during meeting times. Additionally, the Board will not engage in discussions regarding personnel at an open Board Meeting. Persons may request an appointment with the superintendent or her designee to review such concerns. The Board encourages you to attend meetings and be informed.
- The first opportunity to speak is at the beginning of Board Meetings. This agenda item, called “Community Relations,” is a 30-minute time period set aside by the Board to recognize school personnel, students or community members and to hear residents speak about agenda items, voting items, or other relevant school matters. Each speaker may speak once, for up to three (3) minutes, on any topic. At the end of 30 minutes (unless extended by the Board), the Board will move forward with the meeting’s agenda.
- At the end of every Board Meeting, community residents will be given an opportunity to speak for up to three (3) minutes. This session shall not exceed 15-minutes (unless extended by the Board.)
To register to speak, please call the Board secretary at least 24 hours in advance of the meeting. Residents will be assigned to speak in the order that they registered. When called upon to speak, the individual will be asked to give his/her name and home address. If you do not register in advance, and as time permits, the floor will be opened to any resident of the District. All speakers are asked to complete a participation card with contact information so that their comments can be accurately recorded in the minutes, and if necessary, can be contacted by the Board or administration when follow-up is appropriate. Residents may print the card ahead of time by clicking here, or complete a card at the meeting and submit it to the Board Secretary. Cards will be available at the entrance to the meeting room.
