Dr. Tammy A. Andreyko Honored with University of Pittsburgh Distinguished Academic Departmental Alumni Award

Quaker Valley School District Superintendent Dr. Tammy A. Andreyko was honored with the University of Pittsburgh Distinguished Academic Departmental Alumni Award for Teaching, Learning, and Leading, recognizing her outstanding contributions to education and leadership in the field. She received the award at the annual University of Pittsburgh School of Education’s Distinguished Alumni Awards dinner held on April 15, 2026.

Dr. Andreyko became the Superintendent of the Quaker Valley School District in 2018 and is a respected educational leader whose career spans classroom teaching, school administration, and district leadership. Her work has consistently focused on advancing teaching and learning while supporting educators and students across the communities she serves.

“I am honored and grateful to be recognized by the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh,” said Dr. Andreyko. “Pitt has played such an important role in shaping my career and my passion for education. I am incredibly thankful to the faculty who guided and inspired me. Hail to Pitt!”

Before joining Quaker Valley, Dr. Andreyko held leadership roles in the North Allegheny School District, where she served as Principal of Ingomar Middle School and Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum. Earlier in her career, she taught English and debate in Chesapeake Public Schools in Virginia, laying the foundation for a career dedicated to educational excellence.

Dr. Andreyko earned her Bachelor of Science degree in English and Speech Communication from Kent State University.  She received her Master of Science degree in Educational Administration from Old Dominion University and a second Master of Science in Human Resources Management from La Roche College.  Dr. Andreyko was awarded her Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility from Gannon University and completed her doctorate at the University of Pittsburgh in 2010, completing a dissertation that examined principal leadership in an era of expanding job responsibilities.

Throughout her career, she has remained engaged in the broader education community, presenting at numerous national conferences including the Association for Middle Level Education (AMLE) and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD). She has also published in multiple professional journals and served as a Western Pennsylvania representative on the Pennsylvania ASCD and AMLE state boards.

Her leadership has earned statewide and national recognition. Among her many honors, Dr. Andreyko was named Pennsylvania Middle Level Principal of the Year by the Pennsylvania Association of Secondary School Principals (PAESSP) and MetLife in 2009, received the Pennsylvania ASCD Curriculum Award in 2016, and was awarded the Outstanding Supervision and Leadership Award from PASCD (now known as PA-Edge) in 2024. In 2017, she was inducted into the Kent State University College of Education Hall of Fame. She also received a University of Pittsburgh Alumni Doctoral Fellowship in 2008.

The University of Pittsburgh’s Distinguished Academic Departmental Alumni Award recognizes alumni who demonstrate exceptional professional achievement and impact in their field. Dr. Andreyko’s selection highlights her continued commitment to educational leadership and her influence on teaching, learning, and school system leadership.

Dr. Andreyko continues to lead the Quaker Valley School District with a focus on innovation, academic excellence, and preparing students for success in a rapidly changing world.
