Mr. Mike Lewis to Become Edgeworth Elementary Principal

Quaker Valley School District congratulates Mr. Mike Lewis who will become the new Edgeworth Elementary Principal. Lewis will transition into this role following the retirement of current Edgeworth Elementary principal, Dr. Carol Sprinker, in December.

“Serving as the principal of Edgeworth Elementary has been an incredible privilege and the biggest joy of my professional career,” said Dr. Sprinker in a letter sent to Edgeworth families. “As I reflect on my time at Quaker Valley, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the opportunity to work alongside such a devoted and passionate group of educators, staff members, and parents.”

Lewis joins Edgeworth as a seasoned teacher, building principal, and district administrator. Lewis joined Quaker Valley in 2019 as the Director of Student Services, overseeing federal programming, special education, and the District’s school psychologists.

“I want to thank the Board for your support not only this evening but from day one when I got here,” said Lewis at the October 30 School Board Meeting. “I was fortunate enough to spend 9 of my 27 years in education serving as an elementary principal in the Southside Area School District and although I’ve had multiple opportunities to continue to grow professionally and do other things, including the amazing opportunity to join the family here at Quaker Valley, [being an elementary principal] is where my heart has always been. Excited is not even a word to describe how I feel about the opportunity to come here to Edgeworth.”

Lewis earned a Bachelor’s Degree in elementary education and special education from Slippery Rock University, a Master’s Degree in education, and K-12 Principals Certification from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility from California University of Pennsylvania. Prior to working at Quaker Valley, Lewis served as Director of Curriculum at the Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit 27. In addition to his role at the IU, Lewis also served in several roles at South Side Area School District including: elementary principal, director of special education, and assistant superintendent. His career started in New Brighton School District where he worked as a paraprofessional and special education teacher before becoming a 2nd grade teacher.

“We are delighted that Mr. Lewis expressed interest in becoming the principal at Edgeworth Elementary School,” said Dr. Andrew Surloff, Quaker Valley Assistant Superintendent. “Mr. Lewis has a lot of experience as an educator and school leader and spent many years as an elementary principal in the South Side Area School District. Mr. Lewis’s passion for working in support of young children with diverse needs will continue to be an asset for Quaker Valley as he begins his leadership at Edgeworth.”
