Quaker Valley High School Graduate Selected as Fulbright Scholar

Congratulations to QVHS 2015 graduate Julia Poppenberg, a Fulbright Scholarship recipient.

After graduating from Quaker Valley, Poppenberg attended Washington and Lee University and graduated in 2019 with degrees in Accounting and Business Administration as well as Spanish.

She has been working with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in Washington, D.C. as a financial services assurance associate.

Her love for travel and learning about other cultures led her to apply for a Fulbright Scholarship. She was selected as a 2021 recipient and will head to Argentina to teach English and Accounting to university-level students.

“I have visited South America on quite a few occasions with (QVHS teacher) Señor Haboush. I was anxious to return as I truly cherish my memories from those opportunities Señor Haboush afforded me.”

Poppenberg has real-world experience on the job working with teams in Buenos Aires.

“My ability to speak both Spanish and English increased the quality of the work we would receive from Buenos Aires and fostered a more authentic relationship between the two teams.”

She leaves for the Fulbright program in March 2022 and will stay in South America until November 2022. Although she previously visited Peru and Ecuador, Poppenberg looks forward to traveling to Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, Chile, and Columbia during her Fulbright program.

“I am thankful for the opportunity to focus on some of the things I enjoy most: traveling, speaking Spanish, teaching, embracing another culture and community, and training for another marathon.”
