QV Scientists Attend State Science Competition

8th grader Meera Kumar presented her science experiment, “How Natural vs. Synthetic Fertilizers Affect Plant Growth," at the state competition at Penn State University State in State College, PA.

Kumar qualified for the state competition when she won 1st place in the regional competition in February. QVMS had six students earn 1st place awards this year at the regional competition.

QVHS junior, Phoebe Morrill, also attended PJAS states and won a 1st place award for her engineering experiment called “Suitability of Screw Types for Connecting Bamboo Joints.”

Scoring at PJAS is designed using a criteria based rubric where all students can win a 1st place award if their experiment and presentation meet the rigorous criteria rather than be scored against each other.
