Mental Health Resources

At Quaker Valley School District, our mission is to educate and empower all learners to design their best future in a safe and nurturing environment. We strive to cultivate a culture that values resilience, compassion, and the well-being of each student. By working together, we can strive to ensure that every member of our community feels connected, supported, and safe.

Recognizing the Importance of Mental Health and Building Protective Factors

Good mental health is foundational to a student’s success, both in school and in life. It is essential for families and school personnel to recognize changes in behavior, such as withdrawal, social isolation, or increased irritability, which may indicate a need for support. By encouraging our students to build strong connections with peers and trusted adults, join activities that foster a sense of belonging, and maintain consistent communication, we can create a positive and safe environment. Establishing healthy routines - such as prioritizing proper rest, staying active, and engaging in quality time with family and friends - promotes both physical and emotional wellness. The District encourages all families to familiarize themselves with resources designed to help identify risk factors and support those in need: Preventing Youth Suicide: Tips for Parents and Educators (NASP)

District Resources and Support Services

Quaker Valley School District prioritizes mental health and provides a variety of resources to support our students, families, and staff members:

School Counseling Services: Our counselors and psychologists are available to provide support and connect students with additional services as needed.

School-Based Counseling Services: Quaker Valley also offers school-based counseling services through a partnership with The Bradley Center, allowing students to access outpatient mental health services in school.

Student Assistance Program (SAP): SAP is designed to help students overcome academic, behavioral, and emotional challenges. SAP team members collaborate with families and the Human Services Administration Organization (HSAO) to create a comprehensive support plan. A liaison from HSAO provides resources and links families with appropriate services.

For additional information on these resources and support services, please contact your child’s school counselor. Contact information can be found here.

QV Text-A-Tip: Students can confidentially send a text to the QV school resource officer about concerns they may have for their safety, the safety of others, or express a concern about a student and their well-being.

Highmark Caring Place: A community resource providing grief support and counseling to children and families.

PA 211: A statewide resource for finding services to meet everyday and crisis needs, including housing, food, and health services.

Every member of our Quaker Valley community plays a vital role in creating an environment where students feel safe, valued, and heard. Please continue to look out for one another, and do not hesitate to reach out for support. Your commitment to our students’ well-being is invaluable, and together, we can create a healthier and more resilient community where students can reach for personal success.
