Attendance - Digital Backpack

Parents are asked to contact their child's the school on the day of the absence. This can be done by calling the building's main phone number and selecting "Option 1" for attendance, where you will be prompted to leave a detailed voicemail or by emailing the appropriate school at the addresses below.
If the parent does not contact the school prior to attendance being taken in the morning, our automated system, ParentSquare, will send a notification of the absence via text message and email. Parents are able to submit an excuse through ParentSquare upon receiving that notification.

According to QVSD Board Policy 204 Absences, regular school attendance is required by law and is essential to student academic performance. The Pennsylvania School Code of 1949 allows for 10 parent-excused absences. Students may be excused from school for the following reasons:

  • Illness
  • Quarantine
  • Death in the family
  • Court appearances
  • Participation in a religious instruction program
  • Obtaining professional healthcare
  • Observance of religious holidays
  • Approved educational trips
  • Non-school sponsored educational trips or tours
  • Other urgent reasons

All other absences are considered unexcused. After three unexcused absences, a notification letter will be sent home reminding parents of this policy and a school attendance improvement conference will occur. Participation in after-school activities and athletics is dependent upon student attendance on the day of the specific activity or sport.

Family vacations do not qualify as educational trips and shall be recorded as unexcused absences. Educational trips shall be approved only when there is a clear relationship to the curriculum and when the principal, in consultation with the student’s teacher(s), certifies the assignments provided and means for the evaluation of the student’s work.

Additional information regarding absences and tardiness is available under School Board Policies on the District’s website: www.qvsd.org.
