A message from QV Superintendent Tammy Andreyko regarding Saturday's tragedy in Squirrel Hill

Dear Quaker Valley Community:

I join people from around the city of Pittsburgh and around the world in expressing our sadness for the terrible and senseless shooting that impacted Squirrel Hill so deeply on Saturday.

No words can ease the sorrow and pain that the Jewish people in our schools and in our community feel at this time. Our thoughts and prayers will certainly help in time, but now we must reach out to each other with empathy, compassion, and kindness.

Quaker Valley prides itself on being a community where diversity is welcomed and inclusiveness is paramount.  No one should feel vulnerable to bigotry and hate. All differences bring richness to our lives and to our schools.

Our schools stand strong for the Jewish community in our area and will be a foundation of care for students and staff in need.  Our school counselors and school psychologists are available for any student in need of support.  Quaker Valley is a place for positivity and strength for so many.  We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of those who lost their lives and pray for the healing of those closely impacted.

Very truly yours,

Tammy A. Andreyko, Ed. D.

Superintendent of Schools

Quaker Valley School District
