QV Students Compete in History Bowl

Four Quaker Valley teams competed in the annual History Bowl at the Senator John Heinz History Center on October 18, 2018.  The Allegheny Intermediate Unit sponsors this academic competition for schools in our region.

Quaker Valley students completed preliminary in-class competitions to qualify to attend the History Bowl. Quaker Valley’s teams competed in two divisions – grades 4-5 and grades 6-8. Osborne Elementary and Edgeworth Elementary Schools each sent a team, and the Quaker Valley Middle School sent two teams. The Edgeworth Elementary team was awarded third place in their division. Congratulations!

Teams included:
  • Edgeworth Elementary: Ryan Dusch, Dominic Pogue, Emmanuel Romano-Toppetta, and Maren Webb
  • Osborne Elementary: Anna Fuener, Sawyer Krotine, Fiona Mikita, and Kennedy Waffensmith
  • Quaker Valley Middle School: Matt Buhr, Landon Buterbaugh, Andrew Colletti, Brahm Gianiodis, Ava Hensel, Michael Ponzo, Laurence Topper, and Will Watson
While exploring the History Center, each team completed four challenges. They needed to find answers to questions, think and write creatively, and problem-solve. The exhibits they explored included: Pittsburgh: A Tradition of Innovation; Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum; Heroes & Sheroes: The Art and Influence of Ruth E. Carter in Black Cinema; and Special Collections Gallery.
