Edgeworth Elementary's Lida Tomycz
In addition to being a leader and friend to all amongst her peers, Lida participated in Edgeworth’s Battle of the Books program, had a lead role in the 5th grade musical, The Jungle Book, and plays the cello as a member of the orchestra.
Outside of school Lida takes piano lessons, participates in both tennis and swimming, and created a club in her neighborhood called C.I.G. "Creative Innovative Girls" that make things to sell.
Vivienne was proudly nominated for this award in recognition of her exceptional dedication, character, and leadership. Vivienne is an incredibly hard-working student who consistently puts in extra effort in everything she does. Whether it's in the classroom, during group projects, or in extracurricular activities, she approaches each task with focus, determination, and a positive attitude.
Vivienne is also a kind and thoughtful classmate who always does the right thing. She treats others with respect and patience, offers help when needed, and serves as a role model for her peers. She serves as a superb anchor on the morning news crew with a soft, calming tone often assisting her peers with coding and other technology projects. Academically, behaviorally, and socially, Vivienne stands out as a leader who makes our classroom and school community better.
This year, Vivienne participated in the STEM Design Challenge, working with a team over several months to research, plan, and build a prototype addressing a real-world problem related to infrastructure, transportation, or urban development. Her team’s innovation and teamwork earned them first place in the Grade 4–5 Division, and they are now preparing to represent our school at the state level.
In addition to her academic and extracurricular achievements, Vivienne also participates in dance, lacrosse, and plays the flute, demonstrating a strong sense of balance and commitment to both her personal and academic growth. She is a well-rounded, driven student who truly deserves this recognition.
Maddie is a dedicated and compassionate student who consistently demonstrates kindness, respect, and care in all aspects of her life—whether in the classroom, among friends and classmates, in conversations with teachers, during Student Council meetings and events, while preparing and presenting her science experiment at Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science, or even on the dance floor. She is detail-oriented, mature, and deeply committed to her learning, completing her work thoughtfully both inside and outside of the classroom. Maddie does not hesitate to ask questions when she needs clarification, showing both a desire to grow and a strong sense of responsibility for her education.
Maddie’s commitment to academic excellence is a reflection of her overall character—curious, hardworking, and consistently kind. She approaches every lesson with genuine interest and determination, bringing a thoughtful, detail-oriented approach to her work and a mature, compassionate presence to class discussions. Whether asking insightful questions, assisting peers, or actively engaging in lessons, Maddie exemplifies responsibility, leadership, and a true love of learning.
Beyond the classroom, Maddie has been an incredible leader and asset to our middle school live morning announcement show, XPress. From day one, she demonstrated dedication, dependability, and a strong work ethic, consistently going above and beyond to help make XPress a daily highlight for our school community. Her positive attitude, energy, and commitment left a lasting impact, and we are truly grateful for all that she has contributed.
The High School is proud to recognize Vanessa Pickett for her exceptional dedication, compassion, and citizenship as this year’s Superintendent’s Citizenship Award recipient! As a devoted volunteer at summer camps, and Masonic Village, Vanessa brings warmth and joy to the lives of residents and children through her selfless service and kind heart. Her commitment to helping others sets a shining example of what it means to give back to the community.
Vanessa is also a standout student-athlete, excelling in volleyball and track. Her discipline, teamwork, and perseverance inspire peers and coaches alike.
In addition, Vanessa is an active leader in several school clubs such as peer jury and the black student union, where she demonstrates initiative, creativity, and a passion for making a positive impact at QVHS. Vanessa’s remarkable ability to balance academics, athletics, and volunteerism, is inspiring! We are honored to celebrate her achievements and look forward to seeing all she will accomplish in the future.
In the fall, Vanessa will be attending the Honors Program at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
