Quaker Valley Sports Hall of Fame 2023 Inductees

The Quaker Valley Sports Hall of Fame committee is excited to announce the return of the 2023 Quaker Valley Sports Hall of Fame weekend. After a three-year covid hiatus, the committee is excited for the return of this special weekend. This year’s Hall of Fame weekend will take place on October 13 & 14. The class will be recognized in between the first and second quarter of our QV Home football game vs West Mifflin starting at 7pm. The following day, Saturday October 14, the annual banquet will take place at 11am at the Edgeworth Club. For ticket information please email [email protected].

This year’s class includes Tabitha Bemis- Track/Gymnastics/Diving - 2010, Dean Civitkovic- Football -1974, Dr Jeff Mulholland-Contributor, Christa Rogers Pettie – Volleyball/Basketball/Track – 2008, Justin Shegog- Boys Basketball-2000, Furman South - Hockey, 1989 QV Boys Basketball Team, and the 1993 QV Boys Soccer team.  “We are excited for the return of the QV Hall of Fame weekend and our class reflects our rich tradition across all sports.” said Quaker Valley Athletic Director Mike Mastroianni.

Tabitha Bemis – Track/Gymnastics/Diving – 2010 graduate

Tabitha Bemis is a 2010 Graduate of Quaker Valley High School who was an accomplished three-sport athlete in Gymnastics, Diving, and Track and Field, and a member of the QVHS Cheerleading Squad. In total, Tabitha was a 43-time WPIAL and State Medalist, 18 of which were gold. In her senior year, Bemis was a two-time state champion and state runner up at the PIAA Track and Field Championships and earned First Team All-State honors in the Long Jump. As a diver, she was a two-time WPIAL medalist and state medalist in her senior year. Tabitha represented Quaker Valley as a gymnast her freshman and sophomore year and in those two seasons, she earned WPIAL and State All-Around Championships. In 2010, she was recognized as the Female Athlete of the Year by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Beaver County Times. Tabitha went on to compete in track and field at Edinboro University where she was a 6-time All-American, 14-time National Qualifier, 15-time PSAC Conference Champion, 18-time All-Region honoree, 26-time All-Conference honoree. She broke 11 school records and was a multi-time Academic All-American.

Justin Shegog – Quaker Valley Boys Basketball – 2000 graduate

A 2000 Quaker Valley graduate, Justin is highly regarded as one of the best players to put on a QV basketball jersey. His 1,965 career points still remains as QV’s all-time leading scorer. Justin led teams that won Quaker Valley’s first WPIAL Championship in 1997 and first State Championship appearance in 1999 as well as three section championships. A three-year Pennsylvania All-State selection and a four year all section selection, Justin was named the 1999 AA boys Player of The Year. Justin’s four-year era is considered the foundation that established QV Boys Basketball not only in Western Pennsylvania but across the state.

Dr. Jeff Mulholland – Contributor

Dr. Jeff Mulholland  has been the Quaker Valley Athletics orthopedic team physician and part of Quaker Valley athletics for the past 27 years. Dr. Mulholland earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Virginia with honors and was chosen to join the medical honor society AOA for his achievements. Following a fellowship that saw him work in the professional ranks with the Lakers, Kings, Dodgers and Galaxy, he joined Greater Pittsburgh Orthopedic Associates in 1996 where his relationship with Quaker Valley began. Dr. Mulholland is one of the most sought out sports medicine orthopedic physicians in Western Pennsylvania, and Quaker Valley athletes have benefited from his passion and medical expertise. He has provided a level of medical coverage at the high school level that rivals both collegiate and professional teams. Dr. Mulholland and his staff at the Greater Orthopedics Associates are in integral part of the overall success of Quaker Valley athletics. Dr. Mulholland is married to Dr. Shannon McQuone Mulholland (QV class of ’84) and has three sons, Jake, Thomas and Ben.

1989 Quaker Valley Boys Basketball – Team Induction

Under the direction of Head Coach John Gaetano, the 1989 Quaker Valley Boys Basketball team is regarded as one of the best teams in the history of Quaker Valley Basketball. With an overall record of 24-5, the Quakers captured the Section 13 AA championship with a record of 13-2 and advanced to the WPIAL semifinals and PIAA quarterfinals. Led by first team All-State and Fab-5 selection Jeff Gaca and first team all section guard Andre Farrington, the Quakers averaged just under 70 points a game. Joining Gaca and Farrington in the all-senior starting lineup were Reggie Bledsoe, Rob Seymour and Neil Sisak.

Dean Cvitkovic – Football – 1974 graduate

Dean Cvitkovic is arguably one of the most accomplished football players to graduate from Quaker Valley. Dean was a standout football player during his time at QV playing wide receiver and defensive back. His efforts on the field led him to Morehead State University where he earned a full scholarship. Dean started his career as a flanker in 1975 and was moved to tight end. Following a coaching change, Dean was moved to defense where he started as an outside linebacker/defensive end combo his sophomore year. As an example of his versatility as a player, Dean went on to lead MSU in tackles for loss and had 43 tackles and 13 assists in a nine-game season, ultimately being named an All-Ohio Valley Conference player his senior year. As a physical education major, Dean had a concentration in science and went on to earn his master’s degree in education and physical education. Following a series of surgeries, Dean signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1981. Following his playing career, Dean did not wander far from football. He went on to coach at seven different high schools and became principal of three schools during his career in education.

Furman South – Hockey – 2006 graduate

It is not an understatement to say that Furman South set a standard for Quaker Valley hockey during his playing days. A four-year letter winner, Furman received numerous awards and recognitions during his career. While setting records for QV hockey, including most goals in a season, most hat tricks in a season and career, to name a few, Furman was recognized as one of the top local and state players during his time on the ice for QV. Selected to numerous PIHL All-star teams, named PIHL Player of the Month multiple times, and named to PAHL Stellar 6 Team, he was a member of the first QV Hockey State Championship team scoring four goals in the championship game. He went on to play Junior Hockey, having a successful career there which led him to Robert Morris University where he was a four-year letter winner appearing in 135 games for the Colonials. His journey in hockey continues to this day as he is a full-time referee in the NHL as of 2021 where he has worked over 200 games and counting.

Dr. Christa (Rogers) Pettie – Volleyball/Basketball/Track – 2008 graduate

Dr. Christa (Rogers) Pettie, a 2008 graduate of Quaker Valley, was a 4-year letter winner in Volleyball, Basketball, and Track and Field.  Her outstanding athletic career included Section, WPIAL and PIAA recognition in all three sports. As a setter on the volleyball team, she was named to the all-section team 4 years in a row, earned WPIAL recognition in her junior and senior years, capped with All-State recognition her senior year.  On the basketball court Christa displayed versatility as a point guard and forward, leading the team in assists, rebounding, steals, and scoring 3 years in a row. She amassed 1,245 points in her career, placing her among the highest scorers and all-time players in QV history.  She continued her athletic dominance in Track and Field, winning the 100-meter hurdles, 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash & 400-meter relay at the WPIAL Championships in 2007, and 2008.  Christa broke the WPIAL 200-meter dash meet record in 2008. Christa was named the 2006-07 & 2007-08 Female Athlete of the Year Post-Gazette North, 2008 Female Athlete of the Year Beaver County/Allegheny Times, 2008 Female Athlete of the Year Pittsburgh Tribune, and 2008 WPIAL Scholar Athlete. She continued her athletic career at Morgan State University in both volleyball and track and field later transferring to Alabama A&M.

1993 Quaker Valley Boys Soccer – Team Induction

Led by Head Coach Gene Klein and Assistant Coaches Steve Klein, Scott Reimer, and Jeff Roberts, the 1993 Quaker Valley Boys Soccer team is considered one of the best all time teams in the storied history of QV Boys Soccer. The Quakers overall record was 25-1-1. The team boasted prolific scoring with 195 total goals and a defense that only allowed 12 goals the entire season. The Quakers won Section, WPIAL, and State championships and were led by Armann Fenger, Phil Oxendine, and Seth Perkovich on offense. Goalie Phil Gouker anchored the defense with a .930 save percentage.
