QV Student Athletes Compete in State Competitions

This past weekend the Quaker Valley Girls Track & Field Team Competed in the PIAA AA State Championships at Shippensburg University.  Junior Ainsley Commens finished 14th in the state in Pole Vault. Junior Anna Cohen qualified for states in two individual events, placing 14th in the 800m run and 8th in the 1600m run. Senior Claire Kuzma placed 3rd in Discus and 9th in Shot Put.  Claire’s throw of 37' 3.75" in Shot Put is not only a personal record but a new Quaker Valley School Record.  Claire will finish her Quaker Valley career with a school-record in both the Shot Put and Discus.  Sophomore Nora Johns, placed 14th in the 100 hurdles and is now the reigning PIAA AA State Champion in the girls 300m hurdles with a 1st place finish. The 4x400m relay team of Francesca Courtney, Ellie Cain, Anna Cohen, and Nora Johns placed 5th overall in the state.  

The top 8 finishers in each event were award medals for their performances. In total, Quaker Valley had six athletes compete in the meet and brought home seven medals.  The girls team performance placed them 7th overall as a team in the state.

Also this past weekend, the boys tennis first doubles team of Thomas Pangburn and Will Sirianni and first singles player Mike Sirianni competed in the PIAA 2A championships in Hershey, PA.  Both groups lost tough draws in the first round and finished in the top 16 in the PIAA 2A section.  All walk away as WPIAL 2A silver medalists in singles and/or doubles. This year’s varsity boys’ tennis team completed the season as 2021 MAC, 2A section 4, and WPIAL 2A Champions!  They lost in the quarter-finals in the PIAA 2A team championships with a season record of 13-1. Congratulations!
