Students Collect Books to Donate to Local Schools

Over the last year, QVMS ProjectLIT has collected books to donate to local schools.  The student volunteers wanted to help a school that no longer had a school library and found that two schools in the Ambridge Area School District were both in need. ProjectLIT collected nearly 1,000 books to donate between the two schools so teachers can increase their classroom libraries.  Some students and teachers helped to load the books at the middle school and delivered the books to Ambridge.

"The ProjectLIT members were instrumental in sorting all of the books for our donation.  Clearly, COVID regulations make this more difficult, but these kids were happy to help in any way they could!" says project sponsor and QVMS teacher, Mrs. Schuyler Kidd.

ProjectLIT is a grassroots organization that consists of more than 1,000 school chapters across the country.  The goal is to increase access to high-quality, culturally relevant books inside and outside of the classroom and to promote a love of reading in our communities. The QVMS chapter has hosted Zoom book clubs throughout the year within our school community and has also joined with other educators to meet authors and share in discussions about books and reading.  QVMS ProjectLit continues to collect gently used books to donate locally, in an effort to eliminate 'book deserts' in our area.
