Edgeworth Students Advance to State Competition

A group of fifth-grade students at Edgeworth Elementary School took part in the 2020 Citizenship Challenge Finals. This event, held virtually, is sponsored by The Rendell Center for Civics and Civic Engagement. The essay contest asked students to express themselves regarding a current issue facing our democracy. This year's topic was the Electoral College. The question posed to students was, "Should the Constitution be amended to eliminate the Electoral College system for selecting the President and be replaced with the national popular vote?"

The team from Edgeworth included:

Brennan Breisinger

Owen Douglas

Lilly Gibson

Abby Johnson

Harrison Kerley

Sydney Rice

Mrs. Bridgid Robertson

Dr. Gina Gordon

This team was selected as one of the top 12 teams from across Pennsylvania. On December 14, they had the opportunity to present to judges, including former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell and Pittsburgh Steelers legend Franco Harris. The team answered questions about how they wrote the essay and about the electoral college.

Congratulations to Team Edgeworth!
