Students Advance to State Science Olympiad Competition

The middle school and high school Science Olympiad Teams traveled to PennWest (former California University of Pennsylvania) March 1 to compete in the Southwest Regional competition. Science Olympiad is "the premier team STEM competition in the nation, providing standards-based challenges to 6,000 teams at 425 tournaments in all 50 states." Both teams will now advance to the Pennsylvania Science Olympiad competition held April 22 at Penn State Altoona. 

The Quaker Valley Middle School Science Olympiad team placed 5th! The following students earned medals in the following events:

  • Green Generation 4th place:  Max Soderstrom and Ahmed Wahdan
  • Flight  3rd place:  Max Brackney and Max Soderstrom
  • Fast Facts 3rd place:  Max Soderstrom and Vito Pogue
  • Solar System 3rd place:  Luca Albano and Luca Kurumfashe 
  • Crave the Wave 4th place:  Stefan Mauer and Lucy Montagnese
  • Sounds of Music 4th placeLincoln Liao and Nathan Grabiak
  • Code Busters 4th place:  Rachel Bartels and Lucy Montagnese
  • Experimental Design 3rd place:  Amelia ConklinLuca Albano, and Nathan Grabiak

The Quaker Valley High School team placed 7th out of 26 teams at the southwest PA regional tournament. The following students earned medals in the following events: 

  • Trajectory 1st place: Oliver Graham, Sienna Albano
  • Detector Building 2nd place: Hope Linge, Oliver Graham
  • Scrambler 3rd place: Finn Musial, Oliver Graham
  • Experimental Design 4th place: Jay Olawaiye, Meera Kumar, Hope Linge
  • Flight 4th place: Lea Mauer, Mia Strelec
  • Rocks and Minerals 4th place: Keira Myers, Sasha Zupanc
  • WiFi Lab 5th place: Meera Kumar, Hope Linge
  • Forestry 5th place: Sasha Zupanc, Keira Myers
  • It’s About Time 5th place: Loren Barnes, Meg Orie
  • Chemistry Lab 5th place: Keira Currier, Felipe Correa
