Quaker Valley High School Girls Basketball Team welcomes a new coach to kick off the 2018-2019 season. Mr. Tom Demko, a Quaker Valley Middle School Technology Teacher and experienced basketball coach, will be leading the team. Coach Demko spent five years as the QVMS 8th grade boys basketball coach and one year as the 7th grade girls coach. He was the boys varsity head coach at Quaker Valley from 2003-2007 leading the team to the PIAA Quarterfinals in '04-'05 and the PIAA Semifinals in '05-'06. Coach Demko was also the boys varsity head coach at Plum High School from 2007-2009.
Coach Demko says he looks forward to joining a talented group of players at the high school, “These girls are tough, young and hungry for success. I'm very excited to begin the off-season work with the girls which is necessary to get this team prepared for next season."
He says he is also determined to unify and strengthen the entire girls program beginning with the youth travel teams.
Coach Demko wants to encourage more girls to play basketball at Quaker Valley. "Multi-sport participation is part of the culture and fabric of Quaker Valley School District. Although I believe it's important to have all of your players at off-season events, I also understand that in a school district like ours, which offers many sports, it may be difficult for this to happen. I intend to reach out to many of these athletes over the summer and encourage them to play basketball."
Demko also played basketball in college at St. Vincent College in Latrobe.
