QV School Board Approves Full-Day Kindergarten Beginning With the 2019-2020 School Year
On Monday, April 23, during the legislative meeting, the Quaker Valley School Board approved a change to the kindergarten schedule beginning with the 2019-2020 school year. Starting in 2019-2020, Quaker Valley kindergarten students will take part in a full-day schedule and will be dismissed at 3:35 p.m. with the rest of the elementary school students. Currently, kindergarten students are dismissed from school at 2:10 p.m.
The district surveyed parents of kindergarten and 1st grade students, along with parents of incoming kindergarten students, about this change. The survey, conducted in February, asked parents to share their thoughts, concerns, questions and feedback about the change to full-day kindergarten. The majority of parents surveyed were supportive of the change. 77% of incoming kindergarten parents and 62% of current kindergarten and 1st grade parents supported a move to full-day kindergarten.
Please note: students attending kindergarten in 2018-2019 will continue to be dismissed at 2:10 p.m. During the 2018-2019 school year elementary teachers, administration and transportation will work to plan the expansion of our kindergarten program so we may deliver the best educational experience possible for our youngest learners.
