Storytelling Through Making at Quaker Valley Middle School Library and Makerspace
Thursday, May 17, 5-7 p.m.
At this event, the worlds of makerspace technology and storytelling come together. Here, you can write and produce your own stop motion animated short, use a Sphero SPRK+ robot to code your own story, or even experiment with live action digital Toy Theater. While you create your own work, short films and stories created by Quaker Valley Middle School sixth graders will be screened in the library.

Envision Edgeworth is an interactive experience that celebrates the culture of innovation, design, engineering, and arts in our school. Visitors will be immersed in maker activities, interactive art experiences, cross-curricular projects, musical showcase, and an out-door community mural painting experience around our newly renovated play structure.
Sea, Air, and Land Open House at Quaker Valley High School

Join us at Quaker Valley High School as our Physics students show off their “Sea, Air, Land” robotics projects! Learn how these high school students collaboratively designed and built their devices, view demonstrations of their engineering/problem-solving skills, and participate in hands-on design challenges created by student teams.
ETC x QVSD Student Pitch Open House

Come join us at Carnegie Mellon’s Entertainment Technology Center (ETC) and watch the Quaker Valley High School team pitch their final products to the ETC faculty and community audience. The QVHS team has worked for an entire school year in small groups for the purpose of learning a bit about themselves, each other and the playful spirit of the ETC philosophy. After the students pitch their products to the faculty we will host a reception where you can interact with the students and their demos.

Come and join us for an open reception and view the regional impact of the Agency by Design Pittsburgh learning community. With the generous support of Cognizant Technology Solutions and the Grable Foundation our learning community members received small classroom grants to create focused “making” opportunities for children. In addition to designing making opportunities our teachers have been working towards creating and assessing opportunities that surface dispositions and mindsets like curiosity, inquiry, collaboration and more. Please come and join us for some refreshments and enjoy the showcase of each educators impact on our regions children.
The Pittsburgh Maker Educator Learning Community otherwise known as Agency by Design Pittsburgh, is a research practice partnership designed to connect educators from diverse maker-based learning environments for the purpose of developing mutual understandings of maker-centered learning and assessment. Specifically, the teachers come together in the community to address their need to assess and document learning in maker-based learning experiences. The learning community is lead by an educator from Quaker Valley School District and a researcher from the University of Wisconsin. And the community consists of 30 educators from 20 organizations in in Western Pennsylvania.
