Elementary Schools

Dear Elementary Families,

On Tuesday, March 31, Quaker Valley will move to an asynchronous remote learning platform due to Pennsylvania’s mandated school closings. The asynchronous approach will allow students to work on lessons and assignments each day at their own pace, rather than having to meet with specific teachers/classes at a designated time of day. All elementary school students will engage in each of their courses via Schoology; however, they will be directed to which courses they should choose each day by visiting the Homeroom Course and viewing the daily schedule posted by your child’s homeroom teacher.  This is also the place your child will record his/her attendance for the day.

Attendance: Elementary students should submit their attendance by 8:00 p.m. each day by doing the following:

  1. Go to your Homeroom Course first every day.
  2. Open the Attendance assignment for today.
  3. Click the Submit Assignment button.
  4. Click Create.
  5. Type your first name in the white box.
  6. Click Submit.

Below you will find two items: 1) Overview of Elementary Remote Learning and 2) Sample Student Schedules. Both items will be helpful to you and your children as they begin to organize their school day. Please note: the schedules provided are only suggestions and students have the ability to work at their own pace on any given day. We fully recognize that families are working through an incredibly difficult time and may not be able to adhere to the same schedule every day. Please feel free to modify any of the suggested schedules to best fit your family’s needs.

To ensure that students have plenty of time to complete assignments and engage online with their teachers, we purposefully crafted a suggested schedule that prioritizes ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies and Specials.  Please note, lessons for ELA and math are designed to be completed in 45-60 minutes.  Lessons for science and social studies are designed to be completed in 30 minutes and special area lessons can be completed in 20-30 mins. Teachers will provide extensions for all courses for students who choose to extend learning time and/or content exploration.

Again, we understand that the move to remote learning is a major shift for students, parents, guardians, and teachers.  All teachers will be available from 9:00 a.m. to 11 a.m. or 1 p.m to 2:30 p.m. each school day for “Office Hours”.  Students and teachers may use this time to engage with one another virtually during the school closure by emailing the teachers or sending emails in Schoology. Students, parents, and guardians may email teachers at any time outside of the scheduled “Office Hours”. Emails sent to teachers outside of the “Office Hours” timeframe will be responded to within 24 hours.

We sincerely appreciate your kindness, concern, and partnership during these unique times. We hope that you and your family are well and we look forward to seeing all of you soon!  Stay healthy!

Thank you,
