Programs that have been supported through the generosity of donors include the following:
Quaker Valley Middle School Health & Wellness Center Equipment
The FRIENDS OF QUAKER VALLEY SCHOOLS Education Foundation provided $50,000 in funding for equipment in the Health and Wellness Center at Quaker Valley Middle School. Their gift – combined with other private contributions totaling more than $70,000 – enabled the district to equip the facility with approximately 45 spinners and treadmills as well as a multimedia screen. The Health and Wellness Center is used daily by the middle school's physical education classes. In addition to physical education classes, the school's track and field athletes are using the equipment for pre-season training after school. The long-term goal is to have the facility open to the community during non-school hours.
Quaker Valley Middle School Art & Technology After-School Programs
Established by Mr. Jeff Evancho and Mr. Joe Prodoscimo – middle school art and technology teachers respectively – this free after-school program provides Quaker Valley students a safe, supervised environment to further explore their interest in art and/or robotics. The program is open to middle and high school students until 5 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays from October through May. The program is designed for the high school students to mentor the younger students and provides an opportunity for a collaborative environment. Additionally, they provide an afternoon meal for the students. Click here to read the 2011-12 Annual Report for the Art & Technology After-School Programs
Community Youth Worker – Mr. Floyd Faulkner
Mr. Faulkner actively engages our Quaker Valley students regularly within our schools and community. He serves as a mentor to help students select and access healthy, productive, after-school choices through activities that provide a safe-haven to prevent at-risk behaviors.
Those children that are touched by such wonderful programs as the foregoing, develop into productive teenagers whose diligence and commitment to their education and grades could make them eligible for up to $4,000 (subject to change annually) for four years in scholarship awards from the Education Foundation to post-high school institutions of higher learning. More than $1 million has been awarded by the Education Foundation to graduating Quaker Valley School District students. View Scholarship Awardees
These are just a few of the wonderful opportunities that the FRIENDS OF QUAKER VALLEY SCHOOLS Education Foundation is committed to providing for the Quaker Valley School District's students.
Many of the programs supported by the Education Foundation extend well beyond the classroom and help to meet the needs of the whole child including their emotional, social, and physical needs. Although these programs are what help to make Quaker Valley a special place, in these tough economic times they simply would not be possible without the help of our donors.
