School Delays & Cancellations

The decision to call a school delay or cancellation is one that we take very seriously. We must take into account current road and weather conditions, temperature and wind-chill factors as well as the forecast. Typically, the decision to delay or cancel school is made prior to 5:30 a.m. However, there are occasions when changing road/weather conditions will necessitate a later decision.

Information about school delays and cancellations is posted on the QVSD website homepage at www.qvsd.org, sent through the Blackboard Connect 5 automated phone notification system, sent via QVeLink email, recorded on the QV Information Line at 412-749-5555, and sent to the radio and TV stations listed below. Please note that the district does not control how quickly radio and TV stations update their information on-air.

Radio: KDKA 1020 AM | Listen Live
Television: KDKA Channel 2 | WTAE Channel 4 | WPXI Channel 11

Two-Hour Delays: For a 2-hour delay, middle school students report at 9:40 AM, high school students report at 9:45 AM, and elementary students report at 10:40 AM. Parkway West Career & Technology Center students do not report for morning classes. A bus will pick them up for afternoon attendance at Quaker Valley High School. Breakfast is not served on 2-hour delay days.

School Closings: School closings will be posted and effective for a 1-day period. If the schools are to remain closed for a second day, a second announcement will be posted. No announcement will be made concerning the re-opening of schools. When schools are closed, all after-school and evening activities, sports, and events are also canceled unless posted otherwise.
