Welcome to Edgeworth Elementary School
As the principals of
Edgeworth Elementary and Osborne Elementary, we take great pride in
curriculum and instruction offered to our district’s youngest learners
from kindergarten through fifth grade years.
Welcoming students, parents, and visitors to our spacious, light
filled, and technology-infused classrooms showcases just one small part
of our schools. What makes for an exceptional educational experience
is the caring, child-centered professional staff.
Success, one child at a time — the effort to meet each child’s needs
for growth socially, emotionally and academically— is ongoing. We use
student assessment data and curriculum review and revision to develop
appropriate classroom and differentiated instruction. However, it is
the small class environment that fosters our teachers’ abilities to
“know” their students and their individual strengths, challenges and
passions, ensuring each child’s positive school experience and love of
learning.
Our parents are most important to our students’ lives and school
success, but parents have become essential to our schools’ success. We
are fortunate that both schools have active, strong parent associations
to support and enhance our programs and activities, the Edgeworth PTA
and the Osborne Home & School Association.
Our parent and community volunteers are invaluable. Their support and
initiatives have driven, promoted and fostered the success of programs
including Odyssey of the Mind, Generations Together, Spanish Club, Art
Club, Lego League, Laps for Love and Writer’s Workshop.
Both “Edge” and “Os” encourage and foster community service from all
students at every age. Whether kindergarten students are running a
“mini” Relay for Life, or fifth grade students are printing notecards
to raise money for parents of premature babies, our teachers embrace
and infuse community service into the curriculum to develop
compassionate and caring students that give of themselves.
Prior to renovation, our buildings were architectural twins and were
rebuilt to maintain the advantages of providing identical facilities —
both schools remain architectural twins and are designed to foster
student growth and learning using today’s best technologies for safety,
health and economic efficiency.
In support of the district’s early childhood initiative, both elementary
schools were designed to accommodate preschool classrooms. Osborne
Elementary School houses DART and Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts programs;
Edgeworth Elementary School houses the Sewickley YMCA’s Children’s
Center for Creative Learning Preschool Program.
Historically, each school has drawn from specific municipalities based
on geographic locations determined during the 1960’s when Edgeworth and
Osborne schools were built. However, in an effort to maintain our
small class sizes for the most effective instruction, we draw our
students across boundaries to maintain equitable enrollment across each
grade level.
It is our pleasure to serve the district, the community and its most treasured assets, its children.
