Helping Your Child with Math Parent Workshop - January 25 at Edgeworth
You're invited to a parent workshop: How to help your child with math. Join Dr. Barb Mellett on Wednesday, January 25 from 6:30-7:45 p.m. in the Edgeworth Elementary School LGI room. Dr. Mellett will help parents better equip themselves to assist students with math and math homework. Please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org by January 20. Child care will be provided.
Great Kindness Challenge: January 23-27
Osborne Elementary will join hundreds of schools across the country for the 2017 Great Kindness Challenge, which will run from Monday, January 23 through Friday, January 27. Your child will be a part of a powerful and positive bullying prevention initiative that works to promote more kindness, unity and respect. view letter

- Friday: QV Kids are Kind Kids - Wear Quaker Valley clothing
Kindness to Qatar Service Project - January 23-27
Osborne students are participating in a service project entitled “Kindness to Qatar” that has been developed with the help of Army Captain Erik Nowak, who is also an Osborne parent. Each day during the week of January 23rd, Osborne will be collecting items to be sent to United States soldiers from the 82nd Engineer Battalion who are currently serving in Qatar. We are kindly asking for donations of the following items:
- Gum, mints, hard candy, gummy candy – please NO chocolate
- Decks of playing cards or travel-sized games
After all items have been collected, students will work to make care packages to send to the Army base in Qatar.
CLO Assembly - January 25
The Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera (CLO) presents STEEL: A Pittsburgh CLO Gallery of Heroes Musical on Wednesday, January 25 at 9:00 a.m. Told through the stories of three generations of steelworkers, this musical recalls the steelworkers' role in the industry and the town that steel built. The region's rich history comes to life with stories of immigrant families, Andrew Carnegie, Henry Clay Frick, and the steelworkers' struggle to form a union. This assembly is sponsored by the Osborne HSA.
Kindergarten Math Night (at Osborne) - January 26
Edgeworth and Osborne will have Kindergarten Math Night at Osborne on Thursday, January 26 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. The evening will be a great way to review many of the math concepts Kindergarten students have been working on this year. Each family will receive a folder of the directions for the games and game boards to continue the fun at home.
Osborne Geography Bee Results
Congratulations to fourth grader Matthew Buhr who won the school competition of the National Geographic Bee on January 13. Matthew was among 21 fourth and fifth grade students who had qualified from a classroom competition to participate in the school bee. The second place winner was fourth grader Jonathan Cupit, and Andrew Denk, also in grade 4, finished third. view photos
Spelling Bee - February 3
Osborne 4th and 5th graders compete in the school spelling bee on February 3 at 9:15 a.m. in the large group room. The winner will compete in the Western Pennsylvania Regional Spelling Bee at the Charles L. Sewall Center, Robert Morris University, in March 2017. Good luck to our participants!
Valentine Parties - February 14
The Osborne Valentine Party is on Tuesday, February 14 at 1:00 for Kindergarten and from 2:15-3:15 for grades 1-5. Students are encouraged to bring valentines to share with their classmates. Please note: to ensure safety, students are NOT permitted to attach any type of food or candy to their paper valentines. Edible valentine treats cannot be shared with classmates. Students may bring in or attach non-edible items such as pencils, erasers, notebooks, etc. to their valentines. We are all looking forward to a fun party!
Incoming Kindergarten Parent Meeting February 15 at Osborne
There will be an informational meeting for parents of incoming kindergarten students for the 2017-18 school year on Wednesday, February 15 at 6:30 p.m. at Osborne Elementary School. Registration packets for Kindergarten Roundup, scheduled for February 21-24, will be distributed at this meeting.
Kindergarten Roundup for 17-18 held February 21-24 at Edgeworth
Kindergarten Roundup for the 2017-2018 school year is scheduled for February 21-24 at Edgeworth Elementary School. Prospective kindergarten students and their parents or caregivers are urged to attend Kindergarten Roundup. Children who will be five years old on or before September 1, 2017 can be registered for kindergarten during roundup. Parents or caregivers should make appointments for one of the days by calling Diane Hess at the Quaker Valley School District Office at 412-749-5095. Appointments last approximately 35 minutes and are scheduled between 8 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Mr. Noyes offers a Running Club from 8:00-8:40 a.m. to help students prepare for the Kids of STEEL program and the Pittsburgh Kids Marathon on Saturday, May 6, 2017. The schedule is as follows: Monday - Grade 5; Tuesday - Grade 4; Wednesday - Grade 3; Thursday - Grade 2; Friday- Grades K & 1

Hard Work Club
Hard Work Club is available to 3rd-5th grade students who need assistance with their homework assignments. It will be held on Mondays and Thursdays after school from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Please view the letter and permission slip below for more information.
